Christmas tree producers

The importance of Christmas tree and decorative plant production in the Hochsauerland district has been growing continuously for some decades. This has lead to an increase in acreage producing these trees but also to an growth in economic importance of this sector.

This trend towards increasing the area for Christmas tree and decorative plant production has intensified in the course of reforestation efforts in the aftermath of hurricane Cyril in the Hochsauerland district. Many forest owners will choose to produce Christmas trees and decorative plants on their sites, at least for a limited period, to compensate for the losses incurred during the storm.

The special show provides an opportunity for visitors of the field demonstration to discuss this topic with the experts from the Landesbetrieb Wald und Holz. They can also meet a forestry company from Oberkirchen that uses state-of-the-art harvesting, transport and distribution techniques to bring their quality products on the market. In cooperation with another company the forest company from Oberkirchen markets a wide range of products including standard grade timber, Christmas trees and decorative brushwood as well as beech firewood. In addition to this the company also provides forestry services, for example felling. Last but not least the company owns a wood chip heating system that produces heat for the living quarters and company buildings as well as for a neighbouring large restaurant.
