"Fascination Forestry – gaining by cooperation" The motto for the KWF-Tagung 2012
Special focus days for actors of the cluster "Forest & Wood" The motto for the upcoming 16th KWF-Tagung 2012 (June 13 to 16, Bopfingen, Baden-Württemberg) is “Fascination forestry – gaining by cooperation”. This topic picks up on current developments affecting the whole of society. At the same time, it characterizes the exciting working situation in which the actors of the cluster “Forest & wood” currently find themselves. The motto is both a message to the forestry sector and a signal to the general public. The growing demand for forest products coupled with an increased awareness of forest issues by politicians and society in general, means that forests are at the heart of many current social challenges. Climate and energy policies, forest and biodiversity strategies or issues of sustainability - each of these is closely associated with the future developments of our forests. It is not possible for a single forest manager, wood producing company or power station operator to meet these high demands alone. This challenge can only be mastered by a concerted effort, involving intensive coordination, close co-operations as well as professional handling of the various interests.
“With this motto for the 16th KWF Tagung, we would like to draw attention to this is particularly true in these dynamic times with growing demands and increasing wood prices”, says Dr. Ute Seeling, managing director of the Kuratorium für Waldarbeit und Forsttechnik e.V. (KWF). A strong and effective cluster “Forest & wood” not only needs innovative forest technology but must also be supported by qualified actors of all ages. Concerted efforts are required for attracting qualified recruits. Only a strong cluster can offer new recruits attractive prospects. For this reason, the theme for one of the four special shows at the KWF-Tagung will be “Forest carreers”. In addition to this, young forest workers will be the topic of the special program on the opening day of the KWF-Tagung (June 13). The special programs on the following days are dedicated to employees (June 14), entrepreneurs (June 15) and farmer foresters (16. 6.).
The motto for the 16th KWF-Tagung follows a thematic trend set in previous shows. For example, the motto for the 14th KWF-Tagung (2004, Gross-Umstadt) was “Process orientation in forestry – new technology, new partners, new thinking”. This meeting concluded with a general appeal for stronger cooperation with the new actors of the cluster “Forest & wood”.
The themes of previous KWF shows have always reflected those issues that were at the focus of attention for forest workers and forest technology. Since 1964, the KWF-Tagung has been the event for developing and concveying strategic and practical answers to these issues.
